Notice the verb: 'ākhidhīn' (those who receive). It is in the active form. The believer is not passively given the gardens; he is actively receiving them, his hand open, his heart welcoming. The verb implies a continuous, ongoing reception, not a one-time gift.
Qur'an 51:15
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ
“Indeed the God-conscious will be in gardens and springs, receiving what their Lord has given them. They were, before that, doers of good. (al-Dhāriyāt 51:15-16)”

The story
Sūrat al-Dhāriyāt opens with oaths by scattering winds and laboring ships. The sūrah moves through prophet-stories, then describes the destinations: muttaqīn in gardens, takhdhībun for the deniers. Verse 15-16 names the muttaqīn's posture: receiving, having previously been muḥsinīn.
In the language
'Ākhidhīn' (those who take/receive), active participle, plural. The pose is one of active gratitude. 'Ātāhum rabbuhum' (their Lord has given them), past tense, completed. The completed past tense of the giving is balanced by the active present tense of the receiving: He has already given; they keep receiving. The next verse (51:16) names the qualification: they were, before that, muḥsinīn (doers of beautiful good). Iḥsān in this life prepares the akhdh in the next.
Why this verse
Today's verse names what your hands will do in the Garden: receive. And it names what your hands must do here to prepare: iḥsān. The continuity of the pose is the continuity of the believer.
Bring it into today
The believer in this life learns the pose of ākhidh: receiving gifts gracefully, naming the Giver, holding open hands. This pose is the rehearsal for the Garden, where the receiving never ends. The muḥsin learns to be a receiver in advance.
A reflection to carry
The pose of the believer in Paradise is the pose he learned in dunyā: gracefully open. Allah gives to those whose hands learned to be open before they were asked to receive.

Verse 51:15-16 contains a profound theology of preparation. The muttaqīn in Paradise are described in two postures: (1) sitting in gardens with springs, (2) receiving (ākhidhīn) what their Lord gave. The verse then explains why they are in this posture: 'they were, before that, muḥsinīn.' Iḥsān in dunyā trains the soul to be ākhidh in ākhirah. The believer who learned to receive Allah's small daily gifts with gratitude (the food, the company, the shelter, the breath) has trained for the Garden's reception. The believer who closed his hand to Allah's daily gifts in dunyā cannot suddenly open it in ākhirah; the muscle was never built. May Allah, in His mercy, train our hands now to receive every gift with naming, with thanks, with iḥsān, and may He extend that pose into eternity.
