The verb is striking: ULINĪṬTUM, you were made-to-inherit. Inheritance is not earned; it is received because of relationship. Allah uses the language of inheritance for Paradise so that the believer never thinks his entry is by his own merit alone. The deeds opened the door; the relationship is what makes the door yours.
Qur'an 43:72
وَتِلْكَ ٱلْجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِىٓ أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
“And that is the Garden which you have been made to inherit for what you used to do. (al-Zukhruf 43:72)”

The story
Sūrat al-Zukhruf (the Gold) contrasts the obsessed-with-gold people with the true rich, the muttaqīn. The sūrah describes their entry to the Garden: 'enter the Garden, you and your spouses, in delight' (43:70), and then the verse 43:72 names the Garden as inheritance. The legal language of inheritance is used to seal the believer's permanent claim.
In the language
'Ūrithtūmūhā' is the passive form of awratha, to bequeath or cause to inherit. It is in second-person plural addressed to the people of the Garden directly. The verse is being spoken to them as they enter. 'Bimā kuntum taʿmalūn' (for what you used to do) does NOT mean 'earned by what you did.' It means 'because of what you did.' The deeds are the qualifier; the inheritance is the gift. The Sunnah preserves this exactly: the Prophet ﷺ said no one will enter Paradise by his deeds alone, including himself, unless Allah envelops him in His mercy (Bukhari 6463, Muslim 2816).
Why this verse
Today's verse balances tomorrow's verse. Tomorrow you will hear of the death-fragrance of the muqarrabīn. Today you hear that the Garden is inheritance. Both together: deeds and mercy, qualification and gift.
Bring it into today
Avoid the spiritual error of thinking 'I earned my Paradise.' The Sunnah is clear: the deeds qualified you; the entry is mercy. The mature believer keeps both alive: the seriousness of effort and the humility of receiving.
A reflection to carry
Inheritance is property received because of relationship. Allah uses the word to keep the believer humble: the Garden is family-property, not wages.

There is a deep theology in the verb 'awratha.' It refuses to let the believer become spiritually arrogant. The deeds matter; the verse pairs them. But the entry-mode is named inheritance, not earnings. The Prophet ﷺ elaborated: no one enters Paradise by his deeds. The Companions asked: not even you? He ﷺ said: not even me, unless Allah envelops me in His mercy. This is the believer's posture. Strive as if everything depends on the striving; receive as if nothing depends on it. Today's verse, second-to-last of the year, is the Qur'an's last reminder before the final seal: you have been MADE TO INHERIT this Garden. The making is Allah's. The doing was yours. Both are honored, but Allah is glorified. May He make us of those who heard ulinta and bowed in gratitude.
