Waʿd Allāhi ḥaqqā. Allah's promise is TRUTH. Wa man aṣdaqu min Allāhi qīlā. Who is more truthful than Allah? The verse seals with the unbreakable nature of the divine word.
Qur'an Qur'ān 4:122 (al-Nisāʾ)
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۖ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ قِيلًا
“But those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein. The promise of Allah is truth, and who is more truthful than Allah in speech?”
Svenska: Men de som tror och gör rättfärdiga handlingar, dem skall Vi föra in i trädgårdar genom vilka bäckar flöda, där de skall vara för evigt. Guds löfte är sanning, och vem är sannare än Gud i tal?
The story
Sūrat al-Nisāʾ 122 closes a passage about Shayṭān's false promises (121: he promises them and arouses desires; what he promises is nothing but delusion). Then verse 122 contrasts: Allah's promise is TRUTH. The juxtaposition is intentional: Shayṭān's promises are delusion; Allah's are truth.
In the language
Āmanū WA ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāt: believed AND did righteous deeds. The two together are the condition. Sa-nudkhiluhum jannāt: We WILL admit them. The future tense with the sīn-prefix is emphatic certainty. Waʿda Allāhi ḥaqqā: Allah's promise is truth. Ḥaqqā is the absolute, unchanging truth. Wa man aṣdaqu min Allāhi qīlā: who is more truthful than Allah in speech? The rhetorical question asserts the unmatched truthfulness of Allah's word.
Why this verse
SEAL of the Tawbah-to-Jannah cluster. The cluster has moved from Allah's turning (V334-335) to the destination (V336-338). The seal anchors the entire promise on Allah's TRUTH: His word is unbreakable. The believer who has worked through the entire 15-verse tawbah arc lands here: His promise is truth, and no one is more truthful than Him.
Bring it into today
Day five and SEAL of the cluster. Today: when doubts about the promised reward arise (after years of effort with no visible Paradise), anchor in this verse. Waʿd Allāhi ḥaqqā. The wait is real; the promise is truer.
A reflection to carry
There is a believer's discipline embedded in this verse. The world's promises break; people break; even our own promises to ourselves break. Allah's promise is the only unbreakable promise in existence. The believer who anchors here finds his īmān stabilizing through any disappointment. When the world disappoints, when relationships fail, when personal goals collapse, the verse 4:122 holds: Allah's promise is truth. The believer who has built his hopes on Allah alone is the only believer who is not eventually disappointed.

Tonight, when you make duʿāʾ, end with: yā Rabb, Your promise is truth, and I rely on it. Let our believing and our righteous deeds activate the verse. Yā Allāh, by Your name al-Ṣādiq (the Truthful), fulfill Your promise to us. Admit us to gardens beneath which rivers flow, perpetually. Āmīn.
