Giving a Small Sadaqah Every Morning
The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'There is no day in which the servants reach morning except that two angels descend. One says: O Allah, give the spender a replacement. The other says: O Allah, give the withholder destruction.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1442, Sahih Muslim 1010, narrated by Abu Hurayrah.)
Sahih al-Bukhari 1442, Sahih Muslim 1010 (Abu Hurayrah, the two angels' du'a'); Sahih Muslim 2588 ('sadaqah does not decrease wealth')
The story
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Sadaqah does not decrease wealth.' (Sahih Muslim 2588, narrated by Abu Hurayrah.) The mathematical objection (giving reduces wealth) is denied directly by the prophetic word: in Allah's accounting, giving increases. The morning angels' du'a' is one of the mechanisms.
Why it's here
The two angels' du'a' is named directly. Spending earns the spender's name in the angelic du'a' for replacement; withholding earns it in the du'a' for destruction. The hadith is severe by design: every morning is a judgment morning. Even small sadaqah secures the better du'a'.
Try it today
1. Set up a small daily sadaqah: a recurring micro-donation to a charity, a daily coin in a tin at home, a daily kindness with a value.
2. Set the niyyah at the start of the day: this is for Allah's pleasure.
3. Make the practice visible to your children; it shapes them too.
In your day
Apps like LaunchGood, Penny Appeal, and others enable recurring micro-sadaqah. The sum is small ($1, $5 per day); the daily activation of the angels' du'a' is the structural benefit.
A reflection to carry
The daily morning sadaqah. The Prophet ﷺ: 'There is not a day in which the servants wake up except that two angels descend; one says: O Allah, give to the one who spends a replacement; the other says: O Allah, give to the one who withholds destruction.' (Bukhārī 1442.)
Read the longer reflection
The structural daily mechanism: the spender invokes the angelic duʿāʾ for replacement; the withholder invokes the angelic duʿāʾ for destruction. The believer who gives a small ṣadaqah daily structurally invokes daily replacement-duʿāʾ from angels. Cure: set a daily charity-amount, however small (the price of a coffee, a few coins, a few dollars); give it daily; do not reduce or skip; pair with the niyyah of li-wajhi-llāh. Modern automated charity is operationally viable: many charities offer daily-debit programs. The accumulated daily ṣadaqah across years is structurally substantial; the angelic-replacement-duʿāʾ is daily.
