The Book of the Prohibited actions

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 368

Prohibition of doing that which Allah and His Messenger have Prohibited

باب التحذير من ارتكاب ما نهى الله عزوجل أو رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم عنه

A single, weighty hadith forms this chapter, and its theme is the seriousness of crossing the limits Allah has set. When something has been declared unlawful (haram), treating it casually is not a private matter; it touches the relationship between the servant and his Lord.

The striking word here is anger: Allah becomes angry when His prohibitions are violated. This is not anger as we feel it, but a way of impressing on the heart that what Allah forbids, He forbids in earnest. The takeaway is reverence, that we approach the boundaries of the religion not looking for loopholes but with awe of the One who drew them.

Hadith 1806

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ ‏ "‏إن الله تعالى يغار، وغيرة الله أن يأتي المرء ما حرم الله عليه‏" ‏ ‏(‏‏(‏متفق عليه‏)‏‏)‏‏.‏

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah, the Exalted, becomes angry, and His Anger is provoked when a person does what Allah has declared unlawful." [Al- Bukhari and Muslim].

In plain words

The Prophet taught that Allah's anger is roused when a person does what He has declared unlawful. It impresses on the heart that Allah's prohibitions are meant in earnest, and should be approached with awe rather than loopholes.
