The Book of the Prohibited actions

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 352

Prohibition of Urinating into Stagnant Water

باب النهي عن البول ونحوه في الماء الراكد

This brief chapter continues the theme of protecting what a community holds in common, turning now to water that does not flow. In the world of the early Muslims, a still pool or well might be the only source people had to drink from, wash with, and purify themselves before prayer, so fouling it touched everyone who relied on it.

Though stated in a single line, the prohibition carries a wide principle that Buruja draws out, that the believer keeps clean the resources others share and never spoils a common good for a moment's convenience. The detailed rulings on water and purity belong to scholars; the heart of the matter is care for what sustains the whole community.

Hadith 1772

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

عن جابر رضي الله عنه ‏:‏ أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى أن يبال في الماء الراكد‏.‏‏ رواه مسلم‏

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade urinating into stagnant water. [Muslim].

In plain words

The Prophet forbade urinating into still water. It teaches care for a resource the whole community drinks from and uses, not spoiling a shared good.
