The believer arrives at Paradise and finds the gates already open. Not waiting for him to knock. Not requiring a key. The verb 'mufattaḥah' is a passive participle of intensified opening: hospitality so eager it preempts the guest's arrival.

جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ
“Gardens of perpetual residence, with gates wide opened for them. (Ṣād 38:50)”

The story
Sūrat Ṣād narrates the stories of Dāwūd and Sulaymān and Ayyūb, prophets tested by power, wealth, and illness. Each was returned to Allah; each was rewarded. After their stories, the verse describes their destination: gardens with gates already open. The structure suggests that the prophets, having been tested by gates closing in dunyā, will arrive in ākhirah at gates that open of themselves.
In the language
'Mufattaḥah' is from the second form of fataḥa (to open), intensified to indicate fullness or repetition. The gates are not just opened (mafthūḥah) but wide-open, perhaps repeatedly opened, perhaps opened in advance. 'Lahum' (for them) makes the opening personal: the gates open for these specific believers. The verse is part of a description of the Garden prepared for those who have taqwā (38:49-54).
Why this verse
Today's verse promises that the threshold you have spent your life trying to cross will not, on the day, require any effort. Walk forward; the gate is open.
Bring it into today
The believer who has been waiting at closed doors in this dunyā (denied applications, denied admissions, denied opportunities) will find the most important door open without effort. The dunyā's locked gates are temporary; the ākhirah's gates are permanent and eager.
A reflection to carry
Imagine a host who, knowing you are coming, opens every door, every shutter, lights every lamp, prepares every meal. That is Allah at the Garden. The verb 'mufattaḥah' is His welcome made visible.

There is a profound gentleness in this image. The believer has spent a lifetime knocking on doors of dunyā that did not always open: job applications, school admissions, marriage proposals, business opportunities, requests for justice. Some opened; many did not. The verse promises that the door that ACTUALLY MATTERS is already open before he arrives. He does not need to push it. He does not need to wait. He does not need to plead. The gates of Paradise are wide open. The intensified verb mufattaḥah hints at active hospitality: doors maintained open over an eternity, in expectation. The host has been preparing. The traveler walks in. May Allah make our arrival as easy as His doors make it look.
