Qur'an 30:39

Whatever you lend out in usury to gain value through other people's wealth will not increase in God's eyes, but whatever you give in charity, in your desire for God's approval, will earn multiple rewards. (Quran 30:39)

(Koranen 30:39)

A reflection to carry

Allah named two financial instruments side by side and reversed our intuition. 'Mā ātaytum min ribā li-yarbuwa fī amwāli al-nāsi fa-lā yarbū ʿinda Allāh.' What you lend at interest to multiply through others' wealth does NOT grow with Allah. 'Wa mā ātaytum min zakātin turīdūna wajha Allāhi fa-ulāʾika humu al-muḍʿifūn.' And what you give as zakat seeking Allah's face: THOSE are the doublers. The verb yarbū (grow) is denied to riba and given to zakat. Allah inverted the dunyā's perception completely. The interest-recipient thinks his wealth is growing; Allah's record shows it stagnant or shrinking in spiritual value. The zakat-giver thinks his wealth is decreasing; Allah's record shows it multiplied: by seven hundred (Day 246) and beyond. Ya akhī, ya ukhtī, this verse is the spiritual physics of money. Riba is a phantom multiplier. Zakat is the real one. Choose Allah's arithmetic over the bank's.

Read the longer reflection

Yā Rabb, You named two instruments and inverted what every economy says about them. Riba: the world says it grows wealth; You say it does not increase ʿinda Allāh. Zakat: the world says it decreases wealth; You say it is the act of muḍʿifūn, the doublers. The same verse, same root yarbū (grow), denied to one and given to the other. Forgive me, ya Allāh, for the years I lived in the dunyā's arithmetic. The mortgage I justified with riba-mechanics. The investment products I held without auditing for riba. The 'compound interest' I admired as a wealth-strategy. The hesitation to pay zakat in full because 'the percentage feels high.' Each was a miscalibration of Your spiritual physics. You reversed our intuition. Realign me to Your arithmetic. Let me close the riba in my life, ya Rabb, even if it costs. The credit-card balance carried, the high-yield account that may be tainted, the mortgage to be transitioned, the loan I might have given expecting return-with-increase. Audit my finances and bring me to halal. And ya Rabb, scale my zakat to Your math: give the full 2.5%, give it on time, add sadaqah on top, and watch You double, multiply, seven-hundred-fold what shayṭān named as shrinkage. The doublers, the muḍʿifūn, are the believers of īmān-economics. Place me among them. Āmīn ya Razzāq.

A verse, a healing, and a Sunnah, every morning.
