Qur'an 42:15

So Prophet call people to that faith and follow the straight path as you have been commanded. Do not go by what they desire, but say, 'I believe in whatever Scripture God has sent down. I am commanded to bring justice between you. God is our Lord and your Lord; to us our deeds and to you yours, so let there be no argument between us and you; God will gather us together, and to Him we shall return.' (Quran 42:15)

(Koranen 42:15)

A reflection to carry

Read the verse like a contract. Allah is not asking the Prophet ﷺ to be liked. Not to be agreed with. Not to be successful. He is asking him ﷺ to do one thing: bring justice between people. 'Wa umirtu li-aʿdila baynakum.' I have been commanded to bring justice between you. Imagine the messenger of mercy whose entire mission is summed up in those five words. Then look at your own roles. Parent: I have been commanded to bring justice between my children. Manager: I have been commanded to bring justice between my team. Imam: between my congregation. Spouse: between competing interests in my marriage. Sibling: between the family members on either side of a feud. The Prophet ﷺ was not the only one given this assignment. He was the model. Every position of influence Allah has placed you in came with the same line of code: bring justice. Not popularity. Not peace at any cost. Not the appearance of fairness. Real ʿadl, even when it costs you votes, friendships, comfort.

Read the longer reflection

Yā Rabb, You sent Your beloved ﷺ to mankind with mercy, with guidance, with rahma li-l-ʿalamīn, with light. And when You distilled his mission into a single line he could speak to his contemporaries, You chose this: 'I have been commanded to bring justice between you.' ʿAdl was his job. ʿAdl was the heart of his prophethood. Ya Allāh, You have placed me in roles I did not always understand. You made me responsible over a small flock: my home, my work, my circle. And each role carries this line. Bring justice between them. Not just keep the peace; bring justice. Not just keep them happy; bring justice. Not just keep myself comfortable; bring justice. Ya Allah, forgive me for every time I avoided a hard truth in my home because I did not want to disappoint someone. Every time I let an injustice slide at work because confrontation was tiring. Every time I sided with the louder voice instead of the truer one. Every time my fear of losing someone made me bend the scale in their favor. Make me a muqsiṭ in my small sphere. Give me the courage of the Prophet ﷺ who said the just word to his uncle, to a stranger, to a chief, to a slave, with the same voice. And on the Day You gather us, ya Rabb, place me among those who, when faced with the question 'were you just with the trust We gave you?', can answer yes without lying. Āmīn ya Malīk.

A verse, a healing, and a Sunnah, every morning.
