Reciting 'Subḥān Allāh wa-bi-ḥamdihi' 100x Daily (Sins Erased Even if Like the Foam of the Sea)
The hadith
The Prophet ﷺ: 'Whoever says Subḥān Allāh wa-bi-ḥamdihi 100 times in a day, his sins will be erased even if they are like the foam of the sea.'
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6405, Sahih Muslim 2691.)
Sahih Bukhari 6405, Sahih Muslim 2691 (Abū Hurayrah)
The story
The Companions recited this constantly. The phrase appears in multiple Prophetic sittings: he would repeat it during long sittings; he would teach it as standalone discipline. The classical scholars considered it one of the foundational dhikr-formulas of the believer's daily life.
Why it's here
The Prophet ﷺ established a structurally severe sin-erasure mechanism: 100 daily recitations of 'Subḥān Allāh wa-bi-ḥamdihi' erase sins even of foam-of-the-sea quantity. The cost is approximately 2-3 minutes; the benefit is structurally severe. The phrase combines tasbīḥ (declaring Allah's transcendence) with ḥamd (praising Him).
Try it today
1. Set 100 as a daily floor; many believers do 300 or 500. 2. Use a tasbīḥ counter (digital or physical). 3. Recite during natural pause-times: after ṣalāh, while walking, while waiting, before sleep. 4. Combine with the related second formula (Day 102 if applicable) for compounded reward. 5. The recitation should be with presence (ḥuḍūr al-qalb, Tazkiyah Day 92), not mechanical mumbling.
In your day
Modern phone-time substitutes well for tasbīḥ-time. While waiting in line, walking, commuting (as passenger): recite. The cost is the time displaced from phone-checking; the benefit is the named sin-erasure.

Cure: set 100 as daily floor; many believers do 300 or 500; use a tasbīḥ counter; recite during natural pause-times (after ṣalāh, while walking, while waiting, before sleep); pair with the related second formula (Day 102) for compounded reward.
