Sunnah of Friday Prayer

These two reports concern the voluntary prayer that follows the Friday (Jumu'ah) congregation. They give the believer two grounded options drawn from the Prophet's own habit: four units, or two units offered once home.

The quiet lesson is that worship continues after the gathering disperses. Whether at the mosque or at home, a believer rounds off the blessed day with a little more devotion; the finer points of number and place are matters scholars detail.

Hadith 1126

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him)reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "If anyone of you performs the Friday prayer, he should perform four Rak'ah (Sunnah) after it." [Muslim].

In plain words

The Prophet said that whoever prays the Friday prayer should pray four voluntary units after it, recording one option for the prayer that follows the Friday gathering.

Hadith 1127

Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) would not perform any Salat (in the mosque) after the Friday prayer till he had returned to his house. He would then perform two Rak'ah there. [Muslim].

In plain words

Ibn Umar reports that the Prophet would not pray after the Friday prayer until he returned home, where he would then pray two units, showing another way of offering this prayer.
