The Book of Virtues

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 184

Desirability of Assembling for the Recitation of the Noble Qur'an

This short chapter gathers the believers around the Book of Allah and shows what happens when they sit together to recite, learn, and teach it. The gathering is not just a study circle, it is a place that draws down divine gifts: sakinah (tranquility), mercy, the presence of angels, and a mention of those present before Allah Himself.

Notice the verbs of togetherness here, assembling, learning, teaching. Buruja's takeaway is that the Qur'an was never meant to be carried alone. When hearts meet over it, the room itself changes.

Hadith 1023

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Any group of people that assemble in one of the Houses of Allah to recite the Book of Allah, learning and teaching it, tranquility will descend upon them, mercy will engulf them, angels will surround them and Allah will make mention of them to those (the angels) in His proximity." [Muslim].

In plain words

When people gather in a place of worship to recite, learn, and teach the Qur'an together, peace, mercy, and angels surround them, and Allah mentions them among those near Him.
