Hadith 812
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wore a new garment, he would name it. For instance, a turban, shirt, or cloak and would supplicate: "Allahumma lakal-hamdu, Anta kasautanihi, as`aluka khairahu wa khaira ma suni`a lahu, wa a`udhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni`a lahu (O Allah, all the praise is for You that You have given it to me to put on. I ask You its goodness and the goodness of the purpose for which it was made, and I seek Your Protection from its evil and the evil of the purpose for which it was made).'' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].
In plain words
When putting on a new garment, he would name it and pray, praising Allah as its Giver, asking for its good and the good of its purpose, and seeking refuge from any evil in it. Even fresh clothes become an occasion for gratitude and reliance on Allah.
