The Book of the Prohibited actions

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 363

Prohibition of Carrying the Qur'an into the Land of Enemy

This short chapter records guidance about carrying the Qur'an when travelling toward enemy territory. It reflects a concern for honouring the sacred text and keeping it from harm.

Its single hadith states the prohibition plainly. The heart of it is the care and reverence owed to the Book of Allah, especially where it might fall into hostile hands.

Hadith 1794

Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade travelling to the land of the enemy carrying the Qur'an. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

In plain words

The Prophet forbade travelling into enemy territory while carrying the Qur'an. It reflects care to keep the sacred text from falling into hostile hands.
