Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 324

Undesirability of Reviling the Rooster

Even the crow of a rooster has a place in a believer's day, and this brief chapter asks us to see it. The rooster is not to be cursed, because its call rouses people for prayer, turning an ordinary animal into a small, faithful summoner toward the worship of Allah.

The wider lesson reaches past one bird. Buruja's takeaway is to guard the tongue from carelessly reviling creation, and to notice the quiet good that even humble things carry when they help us toward what matters.

Hadith 1730

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Do not revile the rooster for it wakes you up for prayer." [Abu Dawud].

In plain words

Do not curse the rooster, for its crow wakes people for prayer. Even a humble creature can carry quiet good, so guard the tongue from careless reviling.
