The Qur'an commands hastening toward Paradise twice: in al-Ḥadīd (57:21) with sābiqū (race), and here in Āl ʿImrān (3:133) with sāriʿū (hasten). Two imperatives, one destination, calibrated for the moment: one ranks the runner, one quickens the heart. And the Garden's width is named in cosmic scale: as wide as the heavens and the earth.

۞ وَسَارِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
“And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord, and to a Garden whose width is the heavens and the earth, prepared for the God-conscious. (Āl ʿImrān 3:133)”

The story
Sūrat Āl ʿImrān includes the lessons of Uḥud, the battle in which the believers were tested severely. Verse 133 comes just after the discussion of ribā and falling away from victory. The transition is sudden and pointed: stop chasing what shrinks you; race toward what expands you. The Garden's width is named to dwarf every other ambition.
In the language
'Sāriʿū' (hasten quickly), from sariʿa, is more about intensity of motion than rank. 'Sābiqū' (race ahead) in 57:21 is competitive. Here in 3:133 Allah uses sāriʿū: do not delay; do not stroll. 'ʿArḍuhā al-samāwāt wa al-arḍ' (its width is the heavens and the earth). The width alone is the totality of creation; the depth and length are beyond mention. 'Uʿiddat li al-muttaqīn' (prepared, in the past tense; already prepared) for the muttaqīn. The next verse (3:134) immediately defines who muttaqīn are: those who spend in ease and hardship, who restrain anger, who pardon people. Allah names entrance to the wide Garden, then immediately tells you the door's password.
Why this verse
Today's verse seals the 'Inside the Gardens' arc with the imperative that opens the next chapter of your life: hasten. The Garden is already prepared; the only delay is yours.
Bring it into today
We live in a world that quietly trains us to race after smaller things: status, promotion, followers, the latest. The Qur'an names the only race worth racing: maghfirah and jannah. Both are wide enough to absorb all your effort. Both close the gap between you and Allah Himself. So today, take stock: what are you sprinting toward? If the answer shrinks you in size, redirect. Allah is offering you a Garden as wide as the cosmos.
A reflection to carry
Allah commands hastening, not strolling. The verb is not a request. He is teaching the urgency of the believer: the days are short, the Garden is wide, the path is open. The next breath is not promised. So move. Not perfectly. Not with showy speed. Move toward what does not narrow.
Read the longer reflection
The verse opens with a double pull: forgiveness AND Paradise. Allah did not say hasten only to one. He named both because the believer needs both: the forgiveness that washes the past, and the Garden that hosts the future. Notice the prepared past tense: uʿiddat. The Garden is not under construction. It is already prepared, waiting for the muttaqīn. So the only thing that delays you is you. Verse 134 immediately tells you the muttaqīn's marks: spending in ease and hardship, restraining anger, pardoning others. These are not impossible. These are choices made today, in small moments. The race begins now: the next time someone wrongs you, pardon; the next time you have a little, give. The Garden's width is waiting. Allah does not waste a sincere step. May He make us, on the day of arrival, of those who hastened with His pardon in our hands.
