The disease
حُسْن الظَّنّ بِاللَّه
Ḥusn al-Ẓann bi-Allāh (Built Up)
Why it's named first
Because the Prophet ﷺ narrated Allah saying: 'I am with My slave's expectation of Me. Let him expect of Me what he wishes' (Bukhārī 7505, Ahmad). The first half of the hadith we read at Day 190 as the antidote to suʾ al-ẓann. The second half is the operative instruction we revisit today as the cure-virtue at full strength: 'let him expect of Me what he wishes.' Imagine the offer. Allah is saying: tell Me what you expect, and I will deliver according to your expectation. The believer with built-up ḥusn al-ẓann walks into every encounter with Allah with the highest expectation: mercy, generosity, forgiveness, response, opening, healing, providing. And by Allah's own promise, he meets exactly that. Ḥusn al-ẓann is not theoretical optimism; it is the operational lever of the believer's life. Raise the expectation; raise the experience.
In the Qur'an
'Allah is with you wherever you are' (al-Ḥadīd 57:4): the awareness that He is with you should produce ḥusn al-ẓann. 'Indeed, those who say our Lord is Allah and then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them: do not fear, and do not grieve' (Fuṣṣilat 41:30). 'For when My slaves ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near; I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me' (al-Baqarah 2:186). Every verse is a brick of ḥusn al-ẓann.
In the Sunnah
Bukhārī 7505: 'I am with My slave's expectation of Me; let him expect what he wishes.' Muslim 2877: 'None of you should die except thinking well of Allah.' Muslim 2675: 'Make duʿā to Allah with certainty of being answered.' Each is an explicit instruction to raise the expectation, not lower it.
The cure
Practice ḥusn al-ẓann as a verbal and structural commitment. When a difficulty hits: 'Allah has good in this for me.' When a door closes: 'al-Fattāḥ is opening a better one.' When a duʿā seems unanswered: 'al-Samīʿ has heard, and al-Wakīl is timing.' When an illness lingers: 'al-Shafī is purifying.' When a relationship breaks: 'al-Wadūd is rerouting.' Practical: 1) Memorize Bukhārī 7505: 'I am with My slave's expectation of Me'; 2) Pair every fear-thought with a hope-thought immediately; 3) When despair whispers, answer aloud with Allah's specific name relevant to the situation; 4) The Prophet ﷺ: 'No one of you should die except thinking well of Allah' (Muslim 2877); rehearse the dying ẓann while alive.
What is at stake
Without ḥusn al-ẓann, the believer projects onto Allah a personality Allah has not described for Himself. He projects coolness; Allah is ar-Raḥmān. He projects strictness; Allah is al-Karīm. He projects abandonment; Allah is al-Qarīb. He projects rejection; Allah is at-Tawwab. And by the hadith's principle, Allah meets the projection. Treating Allah with poor ẓann produces a relationship that mirrors poor ẓann. Treating Him with the full ẓann of His own names produces an experience aligned with His names. Build the ẓann.
A du'a for this day
Allāhumma in-nī aẓunnu bika al-khayr, fa-lā takhuyyibnī min ẓannī bika. (O Allah, I expect from You the best; do not disappoint my expectation of You.) The Companions taught this duʿā in transmitted form. And the master duʿā of confidence: ḥasbiya Allāhu wa niʿma al-wakīl.
A reflection to carry
Read Bukhārī 7505 as if Allah is dictating an offer. 'anā ʿinda ẓanni ʿabdī bī, fa-l-yaẓunna bī mā shāʾa.' I am with My slave's expectation of Me; let him expect of Me what he wishes. Ya akhī, ya ukhtī, this is one of the most extraordinary divine offers in all of revelation. Most of our suffering is downstream of low expectation. We expect to be rejected, and the rejection comes. We expect the duʿā to be ignored, and the response is delayed. We expect the difficulty to crush us, and it does. Allah is saying: raise the expectation. Expect from Me what you wish. Expect mercy: I am ar-Raḥmān. Expect forgiveness: I am al-Ghafūr. Expect response: I am al-Mujīb. Expect provision: I am ar-Razzāq. And then He attaches: I am WITH that expectation. The expectation is the variable; My response is the result. After five days of Despair diseases, this is the cure that compounds rajāʾ (Day 206). Rajāʾ is the hope; ḥusn al-ẓann is the structural daily practice of expecting Him at His best names. Build it.

Yā Rabb, the Prophet ﷺ narrated the most generous offer You ever made to a creature. 'I am with My slave's expectation of Me; let him expect of Me what he wishes.' You did not say 'expect what is reasonable.' You did not say 'expect within My justice.' You said: what he wishes. Expect generously. And then You attached Your presence to that expectation. Forgive me, ya Allāh, for the years I have stood before You with low expectation. The duʿās I prayed half-believing they would be answered. The repentance I made already accepting that my pattern would return. The relationships I left to You while quietly assuming You would not intervene. Each was a small theft from the abundance You offered. You said 'expect what you wish'; I expected the minimum. Repair me. Train me into the expectation You named. Today: I expect the highest Jannah, by Your faḍl, not my desert. Today: I expect forgiveness of every sin in my past, by Your name al-Ghafūr. Today: I expect the duʿās I am about to make to be answered in the form You know is best, by Your name al-Mujīb. Today: I expect my children to be brought to Jannah with me, by Your name al-Wadūd. Today: I expect my parents to be raised to the highest stations, by Your mercy. And ya Rabb, when the small voice of low ẓann arrives, the voice that says 'do not expect too much,' silence it. Replace it with Your own offer: 'expect what you wish.' I wish, ya Rabb, for everything You have promised. And I expect, by Your promise, to receive it. Āmīn ya Wakīl, ya Karm.
