The Book of the Etiquette of Sleeping, Lying and Sitting etc

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 128

Manners of Lying down on one's back and placing one leg upon the Other

باب جواز الاستلقاء على القفا ووضع إحدى الرجلين على الأخرى إذا لم يخف انكشاف العورة وجواز القعود متربعاً ومحتبياً

Having covered how the believer lies down to sleep, this chapter turns to ordinary resting postures: lying on the back, crossing one leg over the other, and sitting cross-legged or with the arms wrapped around drawn-up knees. The narrations simply record that the Prophet (peace be upon him) sat and reclined in these ways, showing they are permitted.

Notice the balance running through it. These relaxed positions are fine when they keep within modesty and do not expose what should stay covered, and the chapter ends by discouraging a posture associated with those who earned Allah's anger. The point is ease without heedlessness, comfort kept within dignity.

Hadith 819
