The Book About the Etiquette of Eating

Riyad as-Salihin · Chapter 106

What Should a Person Say or Do When He Eats and is Unsatisfied

Some Companions noticed they ate yet never felt satisfied, and this chapter records the Prophet's remedy, which was not more food but better company and remembrance of Allah. The cure is barakah, the blessing that makes a little go far, and it is drawn down by gathering over the meal and beginning in God's Name rather than eating alone and heedless.

The teaching reframes fullness itself. Satisfaction is treated as a gift placed in food by Allah, not a simple matter of quantity, so the way to seek it is gratitude and togetherness.

Hadith 742

Wahshi bin Harb (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Some of the Companions of Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "We eat but are not satisfied." He (ﷺ) said, "Perhaps you eat separately." The Companions replied in affirmative. He then said: "Eat together and mention the Name of Allah over your food. It will be blessed for you." [Abu Dawud].

In plain words

Companions who ate yet felt unsatisfied were told to eat together and name Allah over the food, and it would be blessed for them. Fullness is sought through gratitude and company, not just quantity.
