nging the Qiblah @ Direction of the Prayer\n\nImam Al-Bukhari reported tha
 t Al-Bara' bin `Azib narrated: "Allah's Messenger ﷺ offered his prayers
facing Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) for sixteen or seventeen months\, but he
wished that he could pray facing the Ka`bah (at Makkah). The first prayer
which he offered (facing the Ka`bah) was the `Asr (Afternoon) prayer in t
he company of some people. Then one of those who had offered that prayer w
ith him\, went out and passed by some people in a mosque who were in the b
owing position (in Ruku`) during their prayers (facing Jerusalem). He addr
essed them saying\, `By Allah\, I bear witness that I have offered prayer
with the Prophet facing Makkah (Ka`bah).' Hearing that\, those people imme
diately changed their direction towards the House (Ka`bah) while still as
they were (i.e.\, in the same bowing position). Some Muslims who offered p
rayer towards the previous Qiblah (Jerusalem) before it was changed toward
s the House (the Ka`bah in Makkah) had died or had been martyred\, and we
did not know what to say about them (regarding their prayers towards Jerus
 alem). Allah then revealed:\n\nوَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِي

ake your faith (prayers) to be lost (i.e.\, the prayers of those Muslims w
ere valid)) (2:143)."\n\nAl-Bukhari collected this narration\, while Musli
m collected it using another chain of narrators. Muhammad bin Ishaq report
ed that Al-Bara' narrated: Allah's Messenger ﷺ used to offer prayers tow
ards Bayt Al-Maqdis (in Jerusalem)\, but would keep looking at the sky awa
iting Allah's command (to change the Qiblah). Then Allah revealed:\n\nقَ

the Sacred House which is in Jerusalem\, the origin of the Prophets from t

he is the greatest leader of all\, may the peace and blessings of Allah be

َتِهِمْ خَـشِعُونَ\n\n(Those who with their Salah are Kha
shi`un.) `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said:\n\nخَـشِ
عُونَ\n\n"(Khashi`un) means those with fear and with tranquillity." T
his was also narrated from Mujahid\, Al-Hasan\, Qatadah and Az-Zuhri. It w
as reported from `Ali bin Abi Talib\, may Allah be pleased with him\, that
Khushu` means the Khushu` of the heart. This was also the view of Ibrahim
  An-Nakha`i. Al-Hasan Al-Basri said\, "Their Khushu` was in their hearts."
So they lowered their gaze and were humble towards others. Khushu` in pra
yer is only attained by the one who has emptied his heart totally\, who do
es not pay attention to anything else besides it\, and who prefers it abov
e all else. At that point it becomes a delight and a joy for eyes\, as in
the Hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad and An-Nasa'i from Anas\, who said that
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:\n\n«حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ الط

\n\n(And those who turn away from Al-Laghw.) refers to falsehood\, which i

 Allah says:\n\n
رُّواْ كِراماً\n\n(And if they pass by Al-Laghw\, they pass b

afsir (Ibn Kathir\, on 27:56):\nLut and His People\n\nAllah tells us about
His servant and Messenger Lut\, peace be upon him\, and how he warned his
people of Allah's punishment for committing an act of immorality which no
human ever committed before them -- intercourse with males instead of fem
ales. This is a major sin\, whereby men are satisfied with men and women a
re with women (i.e.\, homosexuality). Lut said:\n\nأَتَأْتُونَ
you commit immoral sins while you see) meaning\, `while you see one anothe

not know anything of what is natural or what is prescribed by Allah.' Thi
 s is like the Ayah:\n\nأَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ م

, on 33:31):\nThe Wives of the Prophet are not like Other Women\n\nThis Ay
ah is addressed to the wives of the Prophet who chose Allah and His Messen
ger and the Home of the Hereafter\, and remained married to the Messenger
of Allah ﷺ. Thus it was befitting that there should be rulings which app
lied only to them\, and not to other women\, in the event that any of them
should commit open Fahishah. Ibn `Abbas\, may Allah be pleased with him\,
said: "This means Nushuz (rebellion) and a bad attitude." Whatever the ca
se\, this is a conditional phrase and it does not imply that what is refer
red to would actually happen. This is like the Ayat:\n\nوَلَقَدْ

 َنَاْ أَوَّلُ الْعَـبِدِينَ\n\n(Say: "If the Most
Gracious had a son\, then I am the first of (Allah's) worshippers.") (43:
